A former Iowa City union representative faces charges that she used the organization’s credit card to make personal purchases.

According to arrest records, 43-year-old Shea Vitti was working as the administrative assistant for Carpenters Local 1260 when  the purchases were made. Iowa City Police say Vitti was in charge of the union’s bookkeeping when her employment ended last December. As union officials were training a new employee to replace Vitti, they say they found several purchases on a company credit card that was in Vitti’s care that could not be explained.

Subpoenas were executed on Vitti’s utilities, with the results reportedly showing that Vitti had used the union’s credit card to pay her bills for several months. Other, smaller purchases could also reportedly be tied back to Vitti. The total amount of unauthorized expenses was $2,105.

Vitti was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 9:00 Friday night and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. If convicted she faces a maximum of five years in prison.
