An Iowa City woman wanted on a warrant allegedly assaulted officers who attempted to take her into custody.

At around 6:45 Sunday night, 26-year-old Tiara Hammons was seen inside a vehicle parked near the intersection of Orchard Court and Riverside Drive. Officers who positively identified her were aware she had an outstanding warrant for not appearing for her arraignment on theft and forgery charges.

Hammons reportedly physically resisted officers who attempted to take her into custody and ignored verbal commands to comply. She also allegedly attempted to spit on another officer while being taken into custody.

Hammons was charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on both counts from Sunday’s incident, she could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.  If convicted on the theft and forgery charges from the incident this past December, she could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
