The Iowa Board of Regents is considering a tuition hike for the upcoming school year.
The Regents are expected to hear from representatives from the University of Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa on Thursday.
All three universities would see a 3.5% increase for resident undergrads. That would mean an increase of $305 annually at the UI.
The UI would also see a 1% increase for non-resident undergraduates, as well as an additional $306 for student fees. The new fees will help support renovations at the Iowa Memorial Union. The proposal also includes a new, annual IMU Facilities fee, which will cost undergrads $240 and graduate and professional students $200.
Some proposed increases for graduate and professional programs will be used to offset financial losses in those programs.
Thursday’s meeting is set for 3:30pm at the Regents’ offices in Urbandale. The Regents said in a Tuesday news release that a tuition vote is planned for the group’s June 13th and 14th meeting at the IMU.
