University of Iowa Police say “multiple victims” were involved in an overnight stabbing incident in downtown Iowa City.

School officials issued a Hawkalert just before 2:15 Saturday morning for a stabbing near the intersection of Gilbert and Burlington Streets. Just after 2:45am a second Hawkalert indicated multiple victims were confirmed.

Iowa City Police say just before 2am officers responded to a large fight in the 300 Block of South Gilbert St. Upon police arrival, multiple subjects fled the scene.

Investigators were able to locate three men who had suffered stab wounds. All three were transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of their injuries and are expected to recover.

Initial investigation has determined that the fight was among parties known to each other and that there is no direct threat to the general public. The incident remains under active investigation.
