Waterloo man arrested for involvement in downtown Iowa City fight

A Waterloo man involved in a downtown Iowa City fight last year has been arrested for illegal possession of a firearm.

Police say the incident occurred around 1:45 am on April 17th, 2022.  25-year-old Javon Middleton was reportedly involved in a physical fight with several subjects.  Once the fight was over, Middleton allegedly pulled out a firearm equipped with a light and a green laser.  He’s then accused of pointing the firearm at a large crowd of people while also shining the laser and light.

Middleton allegedly walked among the crowd and yelled, “I love this sh…”

The man was later arrested on separate warrants and reportedly told officers about the fight in Iowa City.  Middleton was prohibited from carrying weapons due to a previous conviction in Black Hawk County.

A warrant was issued on June 13th last year; Middleton was booked at the Johnson County Jail Monday afternoon. He’s been charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Felon, and Assault with the Use or Display of a Weapon. If convicted on all counts, Middleton could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.
