An Iowa City man was arrested last week after harassing people at the Old Capitol Mall.
Police were called to the South Clinton Street building Thursday on reports of a man harassing other occupants and taking a backpack from a patron. Upon contact with 52-year-old Charles McDile, he was reportedly intoxicated, with a strong odor of ingested alcohol, poor balance, bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech.
As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, McDile reportedly saw the reporting party and began yelling racial epithets as he moved toward the party and threatened to assault them.
McDile was arrested, and a search of his person allegedly found an open container of alcohol in his pocket. When he submitted to a PBT, his blood-alcohol level was extremely high, at. 334 percent.
McDile was charged with Public Intoxication, a simple misdemeanor. A non-jury trial is scheduled for May 26th.
