Multiple agencies responded to North Liberty house fire early Saturday morning.

According to a City of North Liberty news release, crews were called to 615 Rebecca Street just before 3am for a report of a building fire with the home’s occupants trapped on a second-floor outdoor deck.

As North Liberty fire units arrived, firefighters found fire on the outside of the home, extending into the attic space. Occupants were rescued from the home’s second floor and were able to escape through a first-floor patio door. Crews worked to extinguish the fire, which burned through the roof but did not extend to the adjoining home.

A second alarm was called at 3:09 a.m. and North Liberty firefighters were joined by crews from Iowa City, Coralville, Tiffin and Solon. The fire was under control by 3:56 a.m.

Occupants of both residences, including two dogs, were able to escape, but a pet cat remains unaccounted for. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. Total damage is estimated at $150,000. The cause remains under investigation.
