Governor Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation Monday for 10 counties in response to flooding along the Mississippi River.
The governor’s proclamation allows state resources to be utilized to respond to and recover from the effects of flooding in Allamakee, Clayton, Clinton, Des Moines, Dubuque, Jackson, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, and Scott counties.
Reynolds also instructed the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to coordinate the state’s response activities and work with county emergency management, state, and federal partners to monitor conditions and provide resources to those areas impacted by flooding.
Unseasonably warm temperatures earlier this month has led to rapid snow melt in the north, causing the Mississippi to rise rapidly. In the Quad Cities, the river is at 18 and a half feet, 3 ½ feet above flood stage. It’s expected to peak at 21.7 feet early next week. Slightly upriver, LeClaire is expected to peak five feet above flood level. Down river at Muscatine, the river is slightly three feet above flood stage and is expected to hit 22.7 feet. The figures were recorded at 6am Tuesday.
