Searchers believe they have found the body of a Muscatine man missing in Iowa City for the last week.
According to a news release from Iowa City Police, just after noon Saturday officers responded to the area of Napoleon Park on South Gilbert Street after a couple located what they believed to be a body near the east shore of the Iowa River. Responding Iowa City officers, along with Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, recovered a body from the water. The body is believed to be 20-year-old Cristian Martinez of Muscatine, who was last seen around 12:56 a.m., Saturday, April 15th, leaving Bardot on South Gilbert Street. A bracelet belonging to Martinez was reportedly found on the Benton Street Bridge.
The Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office says it is assisting with the investigation to positively identify the individual found and will determine the cause and manner of death. No further information is available at this time.
