Iowa City Police expand search for missing Muscatine man

Iowa City Police are expanding their search for a missing Muscatine man.
20-year-old Cristian Martinez was last seen walking westbound in the 100 Block of W. Harrison Street around 12:56 Saturday morning. Because of his direction of travel, police believe the biggest threat to Martinez’ safety would have been the Iowa River.
Searchers now believe Martinez might have been in the area between the 100 Block of W. Harrison Street and the Benton Street Bridge. Iowa City Police are working closely with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, which has jurisdiction over the Iowa River. Working with Johnson County Emergency Management and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the outflow of the Coralville Reservoir was reduced to aid in the river search.
ICPD investigators are continuing to thoroughly follow up on leads. Anyone with information on Martinez’ whereabouts is asked to contact the police department at 319-356-5275.
