Coyote carcasses have been found dumped in a ditch in Washington County…similar to two Johnson County cases reported last month.
Washington County dispatch records show three dead coyotes were found in a ditch on Tulip Avenue near 105th Street, north of Riverside, just after 12:30 Tuesday afternoon. On March 25th two sets of dead coyotes were found in Johnson County ditches: 13 coyote carcasses were found along Eagle Ave SW, just north of Rohret Road. More dead coyotes were found later that day on Ivy Ave SW, north of 400th Street SW.
In all three cases, the carcasses were dumped illegally, as Iowa’s wanton waste law requires that the usable portion of game or fur-bearing animals be removed from the field. In addition, it is unlawful to dispose of carcasses in a roadside ditch.
Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to call Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Erika Billerbeck at (319) 330-9710 or email erika.billerbeck@dnr.iowa.gov. Information can be submitted anonymously and is eligible for TIP rewards.
