A suspect in a three-year-old burglary case has been arrested by Iowa City Police.

21-year-old Tayvon Porter of Dover Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 5:45 Friday night. Porter is accused of breaking into the Eastbury Drive Dairy Queen sometime between 10pm on July 18th and 6am on July 19th, 2020. Police say Porter broke out a window and stole a deposit bag containing approximately $750 in cash. Damage to the business was estimated at $1,300.

The suspect had cut his hand on the window, and blood samples and fingerprints were taken at the scene. Neither was a match until Porter was arrested for drunk driving by University of Iowa Police on April 1st. Last Tuesday, the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation confirmed Porter’s prints matched those found at the scene. A warrant was obtained for a sample of Porter’s blood, and his DNA matched that found at the scene.

Porter is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, 3rd Degree Theft and 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of nine years in prison.
