An intoxicated Iowa City man is accused of taking a stolen forklift for a joyride in downtown Iowa City overnight.

Two different complainants called Iowa City Police around 12:30 Friday morning to report an apparently intoxicated male operating a forklift from a construction zone near the intersection of Dubuque and Burlington Streets. One caller said the man parked the forklift before staggering away.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Kevin Crahan of South Dodge Street, was captured after a lengthy foot chase. Police say he showed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking. Crahan allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests and registered a breath alcohol content of .168%.

Crahan is charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Operating a Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent, Interference With Official Acts, Possession of a Fictitious License and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over four years in jail.
