A trucking company in Ely suffered a fire Wednesday night, leaving the building a total loss.
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department reports on its Facebook page it assisted fire crews from Ely, Solon, Swisher, North Liberty, Mt. Vernon, Fairfax, Amana, Marion, Hiawatha and Lisbon in battling the blaze. Crews were called to a trucking company on State Street at around 8:15pm.
Crews fought the fire from the air, and on two sides of the multi-bay building. Winds favored the fire and it moved swiftly through the entire length in under an hour, causing extensive damage to the building, its contents and several vehicles inside.
Eventually, an excavator was used to knock down parts of the building.
There were no injuries reported and crews remained on-site for several hours to mop-up. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
