A Louisa County man faces attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot another man with a semiautomatic shotgun.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office reports receiving a call just after 1:15 Saturday morning from Mercer County, Illinois. The caller, Jack Leffel of West River Road in Oakville, stated he had been shot. He told arriving first responders that he had been shot one time in the abdomen by 40-year-old Roy Patterson III, also of Oakville, who allegedly used what police describe as a “semi-automatic shotgun” during a dispute at Leffel’s residence. Leffel was transported to the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, where he is reported to be in critical but stable condition.
Patterson reportedly gave himself up to arriving officers outside his East River Road residence just after 2am.
Patterson is charged with Attempted Murder, 1st Degree Burglary, Going Armed With Intent and Carrying a Weapon While Intoxicated. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 56 years in prison.
Further charges are pending.
