Claiming a stranger’s garage as her residence has led to the arrest of a local transient.

Iowa City Police were called to an address on Miami Drive just after 3:15 Wednesday afternoon for a woman who had broken into a garage and was refusing to leave. Arriving officers say the suspect…identified as 24-year-old Shyawna Collins…claimed she lived there. But the actual occupants of the residence told investigators they did not know Collins, and she did not live there.
Collins reportedly physically resisted handcuffing. She’s now charged with Trespassing and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 30 days in jail.

Collins was given a seven day jail sentence last year after threatening to stab a resident of Davis Street while holding a large kitchen knife in their front yard. She spent two days in jail earlier in the year after assaulting a clerk at the South Gilbert Street Kum & Go.
