Some fans of Hawkeye wresting…including donors…say they’re unhappy with a recent commitment to the program.

Former Oklahoma State commit Anthony Ferrari announced on social media Monday afternoon that he was instead going to sign on at Iowa. Ferrari is a former Oklahoma State champion, but failed to enroll at Oklahoma State last fall after being charged with a pair of Assault and Battery charges that are still pending.

Those charges have caught the eye of Hawkeye fans on social media, who worry about the image signing Ferrari gives to the program. One high-end donor who wishes to remain anonymous told KCJJ the signing makes him “uncomfortable”.

The Des Moines Register speculates that Ferrari’s older and younger brothers could follow him to Iowa City. His older brother A.J. won a national wrestling championship in 2021 before being dismissed from the Oklahoma State program following sexual battery charges which are still pending. A.J. Ferrari has posted on social media he plans to wrestle again next year, but he did not mention a potential school.

Angelo Ferrari is a high school junior and his considered the #6 overall wrestling prospect of the 2024 class. Iowa is among five schools he’s listed as his top choices.
