A wrong-way driver faces charges that she assaulted Coralville Police and damaged a squad car.

A Coralville officer reports seeing a 2010 Ford Escape with Florida plates leave the south side of Coral Ridge Mall and enter 25th Avenue just before 9:30 Saturday night. The vehicle was reportedly driving southbound in the northbound lane. It then crossed over a median back into the correct lane of traffic.

A traffic stop was initiated on eastbound 10th Street. The driver, identified as 52-year-old Faline Jones of 10th Street, reportedly showed signs of intoxication, including staggering and almost falling down when she exited the vehicle.  Her breath alcohol level was allegedly above the legal limit for driving.

Police say once Jones was placed into the back of a squad car, she began head-butting the rear cage, breaking a Plexiglas panel valued at approximately $300. Jones was removed before she could cause more damage. She allegedly spit at an officer, requiring a spit hood. Once the hood was placed on Jones’ head, she reportedly kicked an officer in the thigh. She’s accused of continuing to make threats against officers once at Coralville Police headquarters.

Jones was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 1am Sunday and charged with Operating While Intoxicated,  Assault on Peace Officers and Others and 4th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of three years in jail.
