Governor Kim Reynolds has appointed a new member to the Iowa Board of Regents.

Former Republican congressional candidate Robert Cramer was named to the board on Friday. Cramer currently serves as president and chief administrative officer of Cramer & Associates, a road construction company in Grimes. He ran for Iowa’s third district House seat in 2014, losing to eventual nominee and winner David Young.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports Cramer has donated over $37,000 to Reynolds and Republicans since 2019.

Cramer is set to replace Nancy Boettger, whose term expires in April. Current Regents Nancy Dunkel and Sherry Bates were each reappointed to another term.

Dunkel is the lone Democrat on the board, which by law must have both a gender and political balance. Three Regents list themselves as politically independent. The other five are Republicans.

The appointment and reappointments must be confirmed by 2/3 of the Iowa Senate.
