The fire and explosion at a shingle recycling plant in Marengo has been ruled accidental by the State Fire Marshal.

The final report says the C6-Zero company had been in its location on East South Street for many years and never had significant events until the morning of December 8th.

That’s when a conveyor belt carrying the shingles into a chemical bath had a mechanical failure that caused the blast. The explosion and fire injured employees and people who were touring the plant. Ten to fifteen people were taken to area hospitals for various injuries, and nearby residents were evacuated.

The Fire Marshal’s report says the investigation is now closed unless new information comes to light.
