A Waterloo man pulled over for driving without his headlights activated at night claimed to not speak English well and couldn’t identify himself.

39-year-old Junior Kashala of 9th Street was pulled over in the 400 block of South Riverside Drive around 3:30 am Sunday for the violation. He allegedly identified himself as Lionel Kashila with his last named spelled differently than his real name. He also reportedly provided a false date of birth.  Police say whenever Kashala was asked to confirm his ID, he claimed he didn’t speak English well enough to provide it.

Kashala reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, had the odor of ingested alcohol, and showed clues of intoxication on field tests.

Once positively identified, a check of Kashala’s record showed his driving privileges revoked for OWI test failure and refusal. He was charged for OWI first offense this past October.

Kashala was charged with OWI second offense, Driving while Revoked, and Providing False ID Information. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over three years in jail.
