HyVee has announced the suspension of its employee discount program after what they call is a surge in misuse.

The Des Moines Register reports that Executive VP Georgia Van Gundy told employees in a video last week that the company was making necessary changes to the program, originally launched in 2019. It provides discount purchases to employees and one other member of their immediate family, with the discounts ranging from 10 to 40 percent.

Recent instances of alleged fraud include one employee’s Fuel Saver account used in five different states within an hour. Another employee made discounts that exceeded their paycheck, and the company believes that employee is reselling the merchandise for personal profit.

Van Gundy also said that employee discounts were being shared among several households in different states.

HyVee says they will reinstate the program in the coming months once they’ve restructured it.
