An Iowa City man accused of using stolen credit cards has been charged again for a similar incident.
Iowa City Police say 27-year-old Jerome Brooks of The Quarters on Highway 6 East is accused of entering an occupied structure on South Lucas Street around 5am on January 13th and stealing a wallet. The alleged victim reports seeing Brooks inside the residence and they were able to give a description to investigators.
Brooks is then accused of using credit cards from the stolen wallet to make various purchases at the South Gilbert Street Kum & Go, the Broadway Street Casey’s and the Keokuk Street Kwik Star in the hours after the reported burglary. Purchases included snacks, cigarettes and lottery tickets. An attempt to use one of the cards to purchase a gift card at Kwik Star was denied.
Brooks is charged with 2nd Degree Burglary, four counts of Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card and three counts of Theft or Forgery of Lottery Tickets. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 33 years in prison.
