An Iowa City man is accused of trying to run down a Hy-Vee manager with his car.
Iowa City Police say 56-year-old Archie Burns of Muscatine Avenue was banned from the 1st Avenue Hy-Vee last May. Despite the ban, he was found inside the store just after 9:30am on February 12th. When Hy-Vee’s manager told him to leave, he allegedly threatened to shoot and kill the man before walking out to his car.
The manager was on the phone with 9-1-1 when he went outside to write down Burns’ license plate number. Police say Burns then drove at the man and forced him to jump out of the way. Burns reportedly stopped just short of Hy-Vee’s west entrance before backing up and fleeing the scene.
Burns was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5:30 Friday night. He’s charged with Assault Using a Weapon, 1st Degree Harassment and Trespassing. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over four years behind bars.
