The Iowa City city council will be considering a proposal tonight from a Cedar Falls developer wanting to build a senior and assisted living complex on the west side of town.

The Daily Iowan reports that the Western Home Communities is proposing to rezone 31.2 acres of vacant land east of Camp Cardinal Road and north of Gathering Place Lane into a building with 32 beds and 20 townhome-style units. A shared alley and parking would also be included. Other planned additions include 38 multi-family units, a clubhouse, and commercial use.

The developer says the new project will not be an overburden of existing streets and facilities, and would not affect property values or the privacy of other properties.

Iowa City staff have already okayed the proposal and have recommended Council approval.
