A Des Moines man was arrested for his third OWI  after allegedly nearly hitting an Iowa City Police squad car over the weekend.

Police say 42-year-old Terrell Roundtree ran a red light and almost hit the police vehicle. He then was observed swerving in his lane and speeding.

Upon contact, Roundtree had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of ingested alcohol. He also reportedly admitted to drinking prior to getting behind the wheel.

Roundtree refused all physical and chemical testing. A check of Roundtree’s driving record showed two OWI’s within a month’s time in 2021. The first was on September 17th in Dallas County, followed by one in Scott County on October 16th. He was also found to be barred as an habitual offender.

Roundtree could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison if convicted on both charges.
