City of Iowa City schedules Black History Month events

(City of Iowa City news release)

The City will be hosting numerous events throughout February 2023 to commemorate Black History Month.

The month will feature book clubs, presentations, crafting projects, movie screenings, and more, aimed at celebrating the impact Black Americans have had on our country, and educating people on the barriers Black Americans have faced, and still face today.

Below is a short summary of each event. For details, visit icgov.org/BHM2023.

Highlights from our Black History Month events include:

  • A screening of the documentary ‘Descendant,’ about the descendants of the last American slave ship.
  • A book club discussion of Harlem Renaissance novelist Nella Larsen’s classic novel “Passing.”
