University of Iowa Police have arrested two suspects in a Friday morning bike theft.

Arrest records indicate 35-year-old Darryl Minniefield of Boston Way in Coralville and 31-year-old John Nicastri of South Dodge Street in Iowa City discarded a bicycle near the corner of Bloomington and Madison Streets just before 5:15am and stole at least one other bicycle from the nearby Catlett Hall bike rack.

Minniefield and Nicastri were located near the corner of Iowa Avenue and Riverside Drive at 5:30 and charged with 4th Degree Theft. If convicted, they each face a maximum of one year in jail.

Police say they found multiple marijuana pipes in Minniefield’s possession, leading to an added charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. That charge carries a maximum 30 day sentence upon conviction.

Minniefield was wanted for absconding from Hope House last September. He faces an additional charge of Absence From Custody, which is punishable by one year in jail. A charge of Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility was added early Saturday morning after meth was reportedly found in his cell at 12:15am. Minniefield allegedly tried selling the drugs to other inmates during the brief time he had been behind bars. The drug charge holds a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
