Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies say a Jones County woman abandoned a nine-month-old child while she was intoxicated.

The Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center received a call just before 12:30 Friday morning from a concerned father in Texas saying he was worried about his nine-month-old daughter. He claimed the girl had been left alone at a residence on 520th Street while the woman who was supposed to be watching the child left intoxicated.

Deputies conducted a welfare check. A neighbor claimed they had seen the woman, identified as 28-year-old Ashley Dixon of Monticello, leave the house without the child around 10pm Thursday. No one else was inside the residence, and the neighbor claimed to know Dixon had been drinking vodka all day. Dixon allegedly said she would be right back, but never returned.

Officers learned neighboring family members of the homeowner were taking care of the girl.

Investigators finally found Dixon, who reportedly ran into a house when confronted. Once taken into custody, she allegedly showed signs of intoxication.

Dixon was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 3am Friday and charged with Child Endangerment. If convicted, she faces a maximum of two years in jail.
