A new campus climate survey released last week at the University of Iowa indicates that over half of the school’s faculty, staff and postdocs reported seriously considering leaving the institution in the last twelve months.

The Daily Iowan reports that the survey got a 16 percent response rate among the over 19,700 undergrad students. Overall, 79 percent of those surveyed said they felt valued at the University of Iowa, the highest among international undergraduate and graduate students. The lowest scores showed up among Asian and multi-racial graduate students, where 71 percent felt valued.

The report also got a 30 percent response rate among the nearly 19, 300 faculty, staff, and post-doctorate researchers. It shows a decline in feeling valued over the past four years, the most among faculty, whose scores dropped 15 percent.

UI Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion executive officer and associate vice president Liz Tovar said in the report that the common findings will lead to a continued focus on unifying campus culture.

This is the first report since 2018 that involved the entire campus community.
