A West Liberty man pulled over by Iowa City Police early Sunday morning while on a self-proclaimed “munchie” run has been arrested after several teenagers and marijuana were reportedly found inside his vehicle.

Officers say they observed a 2008 Chevy Equinox heading the wrong way on Market Street near Gilbert Street just before 2:30am. The vehicle allegedly smelled strongly of marijuana, and the driver…identified as 22-year-old Rodrigo Zamora Medina of Sage Court…allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana and to possessing a small baggie of marijuana that was found inside the vehicle.

Police say Zamora Medina claimed he and the occupants of the car had just gotten food to “combat the munchies”. The other passengers were all found to be 16 years old. Paraphernalia and devices used to roll blunts were reportedly found scattered around the area where the teen passengers were sitting.

Zamora Medina is charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
