An Iowa City man accused of robbery has reached a plea deal.
On Friday, Judge Kevin McKeever set a plea hearing for December 9th for 28-year-old Chad Fairchild of the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street.
Just after 9:45pm on July 24th, Fairchild reportedly entered Hawkeye Smoke and Liquor on the corner of Clinton and College Streets and tried to steal a vape pen. When confronted by the clerk, Fairchild reportedly threatened the man with a knife. Fairchild then allegedly lunged at the clerk with the knife while the man was calling the police.
Fairchild was initially charged with 1st Degree Robbery and Assault While Using or Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted on both charges, Fairchild could have faced a maximum of 27 years in prison.
Terms of the plea deal have not been released.
Last June, Fairchild was sentenced to five days in jail for a May 2019 incident where he reportedly started masturbating in front of a staff nurse and nurses monitoring him on video at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. After being banned from the facility, Fairchild violated the ban the next month and was charged with Trespassing. He was fined $200 for that incident.
