A central Iowa man is accused of leading police on a car chase through Washington and Johnson Counties late Saturday night.

The chase began on Highway 218 near the Riverside exit and continued northbound. The driver reportedly stuck the overpass where he had been parked as he fled the initial traffic stop, slightly damaging the bridge.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says the 2016 Dodge Journey reached speeds up to 115 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone while evading multiple marked squad cars with lights and sirens activated. The chase continued onto eastbound Interstate 80 through two construction zones before finally ending near West Branch.

The driver of the Journey, identified as 31-year-old Denzell Bullock of Des Moines, was taken into custody and charged with Eluding at More Than 25 Miles Per Hour Over the Speed Limit and numerous traffic violations, including speeding in a construction zone at more than 25 miles per hour over the speed limit. He’s also charged with failure to have an interlock device and operating an unregistered vehicle.

If convicted on all charges, Bullock faces two years in prison and numerous fines.
