Think Iowa City has awarded two grants as part of the city’s Tourism Grant program.

The Gazette reports that the money comes from pandemic relief dollars awarded to the City of Iowa City intended to spur economic activity.

The recipients of the first two grants are a film festival and a boxing event.

The Refocus Film Festival, presented by FilmScene, will take place next fall and features films, performances and art installations.

ICOR Boxing is hosting the Iowa Golden Gloves State Championship in April at the Graduate Hotel, an event that Think Iowa City says has never been here.

The festival got $15,000 and the boxing tournament was granted $7500.

The grant program was approved by the City Council this summer and will award up to $30,000 for new events and up to $5000 for existing events. All recipients must submit financials tied to their events in order to be reimbursed by the program.

The Gazette says the funds are available through 2026 or until exhausted; applications are reviewed monthly.
