The Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors recently approved more than $4.7 million in federal and state grants to assist 44 agencies with homelessness assistance initiatives during the 2023 calendar year.

The Domestic Violence Intervention Program and Shelter House both received significant funding from the grants.

The money comes from two sources; the Federal Emergency Solutions Grant program, which Iowans and their families quickly regain stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis or homelessness, and the Shelter Assistance Fund, which provides assistance to help with the costs of operations of homeless and domestic violence shelters.

Between the two sources, DVIP was granted over $184,000; Shelter House will receive over $342,000.

In a news release from the Iowa Finance Authority, Executive Director Debi Durham said that the awards will have a direct impact in helping thousands of Iowans in their time of need.
