A Del Rio Texas man was arrested Sunday afternoon after an equipment violation stop allegedly turned up several baggies of marijuana.

A state trooper pulled over 53-year-old Felix Cardona at the I-80/Highway 1 interchange at around 4:45pm for the violation. He reportedly admitted to and produced a bag of suspected marijuana from inside his pants. A subsequent vehicle search then reportedly turned up several more suspected containers of marijuana in the trunk. He also had a marijuana pipe in his possession, and reportedly stated that he had smoked the drug earlier in the day.

A juvenile in the vehicle was smoking a cigarette that he allegedly stated was provided to him by Cardona.

He was asked to step out of the vehicle, but attempted to re-enter it by running to the passenger side and grabbing his keys before he was stopped.

Cardona was sentenced to over ten years in prison in 2006 for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

He was charged with 2nd offense Drug Possession, Keeping a Vehicle for possession of drugs, Providing tobacco to a Minor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, Cardona could be sentenced to up to 39 months in prison.
