A Swisher woman has reached a plea deal in a case where she’s accused of forging checks in the name of an elderly patient in her care.

51-year-old Tiffany Koss was facing 8 counts of forgery and one count of first-degree theft after allegedly forging 8 checks ranging from $150 to $2000 on the woman’s bank account, and using her Amazon account to ship nearly $1000 in items to Koss’ home.

The victim, 91-year-old Evelyn LaPlace, passed away in 2020. The thefts reportedly took place between March 2019 and June 2020 when LaPlace was in Koss’ care at Solon Retirement Village.

The charges have been pleaded down to one count of forgery and one count of second degree theft. The rest of the charges were dropped, and prosecutors are recommending a ten-year suspended sentence. A sentencing date has been set for February 13th.

Meanwhile, LaPlace’s estate is suing Koss and Solon Retirement Village for wrongful death, negligence and breach of contract. The facility claims that Koss acted independently of the facility and fired her once they learned about the thefts.
