The University of Iowa Dance Marathon has committed $1.5 million to a new pediatric cancer professorship at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

The announcement was made Monday by student representatives and faculty at the Iowa Memorial Union. The Daily Iowan reports that a key part of the donation was the emphasis on people’s role in medicine, versus technology or facilities.

Dance Marathon Chair David Dickens is interim director in the division of pediatric oncology and hematology at the Hospital. He says the facility is looking for staff from top institutions to come to Iowa City.

This year’s Dance Marathon Big Event is scheduled for February 3-4 2023 at the IMU.
