COVID cases rise in Johnson County

Cases of COVID-19 increased in Johnson County last week. That’s according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University analyzed by USA Today.

After reporting 132 cases and no deaths the previous week, the county had a roughly 11 percent increase in cases, to 148. Only Linn, with 162 and Polk, with 192,had more reported cases last week. Three more deaths were reported in Johnson County, bringing the total to 167 since the pandemic began.

Statewide, cases dropped by 8.7%. That puts Iowa at 39th among states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis. Only 8 states had an increase in cases in the last week.

Hospitalizations jumped 35% in the last week, from 237 to 365.
