Solon firefighters are offering to change batteries in hard-to-reach smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for seniors and disabled residents in their service area.
According to the Solon Fire Department Facebook page, the group’s “Battery Up” program will send firefighters to the residences of those who are unable to change their own batteries to do it for them. The one-day event will take place on Saturday, November 5th. That’s the night when clocks are put back one hour for Daylight Saving Time…which is traditionally the date when firefighters recommend changing the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Battery Up appointments on November 5th begin at 8am. If you are in need of this service, or have an elderly or disabled person you know is in need of assistance, contact the Solon Fire Department at 319-624-2386 and leave them a message with your name, address and a good contact number.
