Coralville firefighters battle early morning blaze

Coralville firefighters battled an early morning blaze on Friday.

According to a Coralville Fire Department news release, fire crews were called to 209 Holiday Road at approximately 5:10 AM. They were joined by units from Iowa City, North Liberty, and Tiffin.

Fire damage was contained to a third floor apartment and attic area of the building. The apartments below the unit sustained water damage and the remainder of the third floor units sustained smoke damage. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire within 30 minutes, and firefighters remained on the scene until about 8:00 AM.

Several occupants of the complex were home at the time of the fire and got out safely under their own power. Some displaced occupants are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The Coralville Fire Department is investigating the cause and origin of the fire, which is
believed to be accidental. There is not a damage estimate at this time.
