Johnson County poll workers will get paid $2 more than they were last election.
The Daily Iowan reports that the County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the bump in pay for the local election workers. They’ll now make $16.50 an hour.
County auditor Travis Weipert applauded the move, saying it was needed to retain the current poll worker pool while attracting new ones. He pointed out that many fast food restaurants pay at least that rate.
Weipert also hopes the increase will make workers less averse to harassment, which they said has been a concern recently.
Polls will be open November 8th from 7am to 8pm. To apply or find out more information about being a poll worker, go to johnsoncountyiowa.gov/peo.
