A suspect in a strong-arm robbery at a downtown Iowa City convenience store has reached a plea deal.

23-year-old Lewis Robinson III of 1st Avenue in Cedar Rapids entered a guilty plea on Friday. Terms of the deal have not been released.

Police say Robinson and an accomplice assaulted the alleged victim outside the East Burlington Street Kum & Go around 2:15am on October 3rd of last year. The pair allegedly took the man’s gun before fleeing.

The incident was caught on surveillance video.

The alleged victim said he knew Robinson from previous interactions.  Robinson reportedly admitted to being at the scene.

Robinson was initially charged with 2nd Degree Robbery and Trafficking in Stolen Weapons. If convicted on both charges, he would have faced a maximum of 30 years in prison. Online records show a 1st Degree Theft charge has since been added to the case. That charge carries a maximum sentence of ten years behind bars.

Robinson’s sentencing is set for December 12th.
