A Coralville man was taken into custody after he allegedly provided a false name to officers when allegedly trespassing.
Officers were called to the 500 block of South Lucas Street in Iowa City Monday morning around 11:30. 31-year-old Yshan Rogers of 7th Street was identified as the suspect, but provided the name “Robert Rogers” and a false date of birth. Police warned him for trespass and let him go.
Officers checked the driver’s license photo of Robert Rogers and realized that the picture did not match the suspect and later confronted him about the discrepancy. He then reportedly provided a social security number and address that did not match the name provided. When officers asked Rogers to come closer, he allegedly fled. Officers took him into custody a few blocks away.
Rogers was Mirandized and he reportedly admitted he lied and ran away because he has active warrants. A check of court records showed that he failed to appear for two arraignments; one from a criminal mischief incident that occurred March 22nd of this year, and the other for a 3rd degree theft charge from May 16th of this year.
Rogers was charged with Interference with Official acts, a simple misdemeanor. The other charges against him could lead to a jail sentence of up to three years.
