Former Iowa City Community School District employee Molly Abraham was appointed to replace Shawn Eyestone on the Iowa City School Board Tuesday night.

Eyestone is stepping down from the board to return to teaching with a little over one year left in his term. Abraham will serve out the remainder of his term.

Abraham was chosen out of six applicants because of her four-decade background in special education and her dedication to equity. She also served as an assistant principal at West High School. Abraham retired in 2020.

She has not indicated whether she will run for the position in November 2023.
