An area transient was charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after getting to the top of a downtown building and throwing items off of it.

Monday morning just before 10:30 am, 25-year-old Abraham Lemus was found on the top roof area of the businesses located at the 10 block of South Dubuque Street. Lemus was observed coming down the back exterior stairs of a west side building.

Police say a witness indicated that Lemus broke an exterior window while on the roof, and Lemus reportedly admitted to throwing items from off the top of the building. A search of his backpack allegedly turned up drug paraphernalia.

The value of the broken window is estimated to be $1500.

Lemus was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct, 3rd degree criminal mischief, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges against him, Lemus could be sentenced to 26 months in jail. He was released on his own recognizance after his initial appearance Tuesday, pending further court dates.
