Cedar Rapids Police investigate Friday afternoon shooting

Cedar Rapids Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the southwest quadrant of the city Friday afternoon.

According to a release from the Department of Public Safety, the Joint Communication Agency received calls about shots being fired at an apartment complex on the 4600 block of 1st Avenue Southwest. Arriving officers discovered evidence of a shooting, including damage to vehicles and a garage.

Witnesses reported that several subjects arrived on the scene just before the shots were fired, with the same group leaving the area quickly afterwards. They also reported that the gunfire struck near their feet.

Shortly after the incident, a juvenile male came to a local hospital for treatment to a lower-extremity wound. Police believe the juvenile was at the scene of the shooting.

Police investigators are looking for the public’s help in identifying the subjects involved. Anyone with security footage in the immediate area from around the time of the shooting, or anyone else who witnessed the incident should contact Cedar Rapids Police at 319-286-5491.
