The City of North Liberty is anticipating a surge in traffic once the University of Iowa Health Care campus opens at the intersection of Forevergreen Road and Highway 965. To that end, a study has identified eight intersections that would require traffic lights, additional lanes, or new restrictive signage to mitigate congestion.

UI Hospitals and Clinics interim CEO Kim Hunter has committed $8.2 million of their project budget on land improvements. She tells the Gazette that once the building was designed and placed on the site, they requested a traffic study from architecture and engineering firm Shive-Hattery to identify needed improvements. They recommended new signaling, additional lanes, or both from the north of the new campus off Forevergreen Road and south off Wheaton Road.

Other intersections needing a change include Forevergreen Road and Kansas Boulevard, the access point of Forevergreen Road and an access point just west of the main entrance, Highway 965 and Sara Court, and the intersection of Forevergreen Road and Crosspark Road between HyVee and HyVee Gas.

Shive-Hattery rated the intersections with grades ranging from A to F. Most of the intersections would be rated D to F without the improvements.
