Area transient charged after threatening individual with knife

An area transient faces prison time after allegedly threatening an individual who has standing outside of Cross Park Place on the sidewalk.

Police say 58-year-old Mark Staley and the victim were involved in a physical altercation on August 31st at approximately 1:30 at the building. Staley allegedly came out of his residence and confronted the victim, then made threats to go and get his knife. As officers arrived, staff and residents notified them that Staley was armed. When asked if he indeed had a knife, Staley reportedly admitted that he did, and complied with officers by lifting his pant leg, pulling out a large blue butcher knife out of his sock and throwing it on the ground.

Staley continued to have a verbal altercation with the victim while police were on scene. He allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and had the odor of ingested alcohol. He also had a cup of vodka with him.

Staley was arrested and charged with Going Armed with Intent and Public Intoxication; he could be sentenced to over five years in prison if convicted on both counts.
