The fourth and final candidate to become Vice President for Medical Affairs and dean of the Carver College Of Medicine will be visiting campus today and Friday.
The Iowa Now website reports that Bradley E. Britigan is the Stokes-Shackleford Professor and Dean of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine in Omaha. He is also responsible for the UNMC faculty practice plan in partnership with the CEOs of Nebraska Medicine and Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha. His research focus is internal medicine and infectious disease.
Britigan has history at the U of I, beginning his post-education medical career here in 1987 and served as staff physician at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center through 2004.
An open forum is scheduled for noon today at the Medical Education Facility on Newton Road. Britigan will also meet with faculty, staff, students, shared governance, and campus leadership through Friday.
The previous three candidates to visit campus include Sandra L. Wong, a professor of surgery and chair of the Department of Surgery at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and Dartmouth Health; Cristen Page, executive dean of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine; and Selwyn Rogers, Jr., a professor and founding director of the trauma center at University of Chicago Hospitals.
After Britigan’s visit, the 21-member search committee will continue their selection process. Once a candidate is selected, the University of Iowa will begin its search for a new CEO for UI Hospitals and Clinics. Kim Hunter is currently serving as interim CEO after Suresh Gunasekaran left in February for a new position in San Francisco.
